Real-world examples of yurt ROI

I am building a combination primary dwelling and healing retreat on the Big Island
of Hawaii. Given that the prices there are astronomical, my mortgage broker suggested
a yurt instead of a traditional structure. My initial reaction was, “I’m not living in a tent,
and I’m not making my retreat clients live in one either.” She said, “Gloria, they’re not
tents — do a Google search and you’ll see what I mean.”
In January 2025, I followed my broker’s advice and spoke with every yurt manufacturer
that I could find. I was impressed by The Out Factory’s brochure — how it was completely
transparent in the type of building materials they employed, and the pricing. I arranged a
Zoom call with one of the founders, Praveen, and I found him and his company
delightful.
Praveen’s architect, Ravi, took my hand-drawn floor plan and turned it into the most
beautiful, professional architectural design. I don’t know how he captured my dream so
well, but I couldn’t have done better if I were trying, and I was trying hard!
By the end of January, I was completely sold on a yurt instead of a traditional structure.
My thinking was, why would I pay 675k for a conventional home when I could have the
same square footage in a yurt for less than 100k? Especially when The Out Factory’s
yurts are on the cutting edge in both quality and aesthetics — far superior to any other
yurt manufacturer who I spoke with, not to mention traditional builders.
Yurt communities are popping up everywhere in the United States — from the cold
climates of Colorado to the more tropical climates of Florida. I’m not only looking
forward to placing a yurt on my land in Hawaii — which will now also triple as a yurt
showroom, — but I’m also excited about joining the company and bringing affordable
housing and “feelings of community” to other Americans. Come join the yurt lifestyle!

That’s what we named our Yurt.
A quiet circle of gratitude, patience, and remembrance, nestled deep within our little piece of farmland. This wasn’t just a project. It was a leap of faith.
Somewhere between the chaos of city life and the quiet of the countryside, my partner and I found ourselves dreaming of a space. Not just a structure, but a sanctuary, tucked into the arms of nature, rooted in simplicity, and designed to hold stories. That dream led us to a little piece of farmland. And eventually, to The Out Factory. We’d been exploring alternate building options for nearly a year. Brick and mortar didn’t speak to us. We wanted something offbeat. Light on the earth. Full of soul. That’s when we stumbled upon The Out Factory and met Praveen, a conversation that would change everything.
Our first meeting was in June 2022 at his model Yurt, which also doubled up as his home and HQ. Within minutes, we knew: this was it. The space felt alive, warm, functional, minimal, yet rich in intention. Praveen was generous with his time and insights, sharing the do’s and don’ts of Yurt living with honesty and heart. From there, it moved quickly. He brought in Karthik, his architect, and together they helped us turn our scribbled dreams into detailed working plans and stunning 3D visuals. By October 2022, we were ready to build.
But of course, this wasn’t going to be a plug-and-play project. Our land is in a remote, rugged location, charming but challenging. Every delivery had to be planned like a military operation. Accessibility was limited. There were logistical constraints, erratic weather, and more than a few "uh-oh" moments.
Yet through every twist, Praveen and his team stood with us. Whenever we hit a wall (sometimes literally), he brought a solution. Whether it was reworking timelines due to transport issues or sourcing alternatives when a material delay showed up, there was no drama, just quiet, dependable execution. His crew mirrored that energy, efficient, respectful, and deeply skilled. And then, in January 2023, it happened. Our Yurt was ready. Nestled between fruit trees and birdsong, it stood like a circle of calm, open to the skies, grounded to the soil, and filled with possibilities.
We didn’t just get a structure. We got a home. And more than that, we got a story to tell.
To anyone out there contemplating an alternate path, whether for living, hosting, or dreaming differently, I’ll say this: The Out Factory doesn’t just build Yurts. They build trust, they build relationships, and they walk with you, every step of the way. We’re now making memories inside those yurt walls, from lazy Sunday breakfasts to rainy afternoon siestas, all thanks to the unwavering partnership we had in Praveen and his team. If you’ve been waiting for a sign to do something different, this is it.
Take the road less travelled. It might just lead you home.

"I was in Jodhpur searching for a good vendor for customized tents. The pre-appointed meeting with one vendor had been a disaster. I started searching the internet and The Out Factory popped up. I was impressed with what I saw. It was unique and fitted exactly what I was hoping for. I called requesting for an immediate appointment. The voice on the other side asked me if I was in Bangalore already. I was taken aback and said that I am in Jodhpur and your name surfaced in my search. It is not only that "Man proposes and God disposes" but it is also that when man cannot plan, then God plans!! My hands on approach got me to Bangalore within days and meeting Praveen ji, seeing his passion and his product filled me with delight.
Our discussions lasted for hours starting with a hearty lunch inside the sample lovable Yurt, followed by hours on the drawing board where we debated on how my needs could be incorporated. Praveen ji's willingness to understand, adapt and implement were the deciding factors. We didn't realize it was evening already and we had still not signed a deal. Obviously, drinks followed and a deal for 8 Yurts was signed. However, it was agreed before signing that if Praveen ji uses any of my ideas for any other client, he will compensate me for it. Ha! Ha! The fact that the delivery was within just few months, enabled us to have our property up and running with Yurts, in addition to our existing cottages.
Our guests are loving this experience because they have never seen such a unique accommodation ever before. It is luxurious, eco-friendly, sustainable and Instagrammable. I thank both my Bhagwan ji and Praveen ji for adding this high premium yurts in Tathastu Kanha. Our 4 properties at Pench, Tadoba, Bandhavgarh and Satpura are already operational with equally unique accommodations like Caves, Tree House, Mud Rooms, Machhans etc but the Yurts are definitely under serious consideration for our next property at Sanjay Dubri."

“When I first came across these yurts, I thought it would be a very innovative form for our spa at Discovery Village, Kabini. Once the spa was up and running, I felt I could use a yurt for myself. That’s how I ended up with two connected yurts that are now the family’s weekend home at Kanakapura. The sun comes in through the transparent dome, wakes me up to the sound of the stream going by outside, add a cup of tea and you have an ideal morning.”

“At the bottom end of Machaan, is a wide expanse of wetlands, my favourite spot. I had always wanted to create a unique experience just above, where guests could watch the birds come home, in the evenings. For birders and for lay folks alike, this is a real encounter with nature and I wanted it to go beyond concrete, be something novel and special. Yurts from The Out Factory were exactly what I was dreaming since the time we bought this land.”

“As an architect, I have a soft corner for the innovative. And when a friend shared some images from The Out Factory, I was clear that I needed a yurt for my farm. When I have guests over, everyone is curious and wants to know more about the yurt. And I end up telling them about the yurt from an architect’s perspective, probably a longer story than they wish to hear.”
